Guidance Counselor Role

Students at Robbinsdale Middle School are assigned a counselor that stays with their class from 6 through 8 grades. We assist with initial transitions to middle school, we help them manage the developmental issues that arise when they are here, and we support and guide them as they make plans for high school and beyond.
Counselors are responsible for the oversight and management of standardized testing in our building. We work with students, teachers and families to understand how assessment information can inform academic decisions.
Students see counselors for a variety of reasons, including scheduling questions, program planning, academic difficulties, personal problems and general concerns. Students can request an appointment in the guidance office. Teachers and parents may also request counselors to meet with a student. Most meetings with counselors are brief and solution-focused to get kids back into the learning environment quickly.
If you have questions regarding next year’s academic program, please contact the counselor who will be working with your child’s grade level that year.
