Curriculum

Our middle school curriculum offers a continuation (and strengthening) of learning for students that are based in the Minnesota state academic standards. This continuation from elementary school provides learning in academic and social-emotional areas that will prepare students to be ready for college, articulated skilled trades and careers.

Spanish Immersion Programming

RSI students to continue their Spanish instruction at Plymouth Middle School. Students take three classes per day in Spanish at each grade level: Science, Social Studies and Spanish Language Arts/Reading.

Beginning English Language Learners Course Outline

Grades 6 - 8 Beginning EL Course Outline

ELL Co-teaching or Inclusion Model: Wherever possible, the EL teacher co-teaches in the mainstream classroom with the classroom teacher. The EL teacher supplements the academic instruction of the classroom teacher, providing flexible grouping options so students receive smaller group or individual instruction. The EL teacher strives for increased meaningful interaction within the classroom. Co-teaching ensures minimal disruption for the EL student. Teachers use the classroom curricula as a resource, as well as other appropriate supporting materials. Students may need to be clustered into specific classrooms rather than be equally distributed across all classrooms to capitalize on this method.

Get Ready Postsecondary Pathways Lessons

Get Ready Postsecondary Pathways Curriculum is designed to help students identify their potential college and career pathways. The curriculum will be taught on the first two Wednesdays of every month during the Advisory period.

Get Ready is also providing monthly independent activities for students to engage in. Students can access the activities by clicking on the Get Ready Star in their Advisory Schoology course virtual advisory classroom.

Get Ready also presents special events connected to our communities, like college tours, career expos, guest speakers, and parent/guardian workshops.

I-Time BARR Lessons

Once a week, RMS teachers from one subject (for example, Science) teach and participate in an I-Time lesson with their students in every class. The goal of I-Time is to help strengthen student-to-student and staff-to-student relationships, and to build a healthy classroom community. Important topics we will explore together: building community, stress management, bullying and substance use awareness.

Second Step Social-Emotional Learning

At RMS, we have embedded Second Step® social-emotional learning experiences into our Advisory classes, and explore these grade level activities alongside our students each Monday. Second Step's curriculum is designed to help RMS develop our school's safe environment and to help our students thrive. RMS has added this layer of intentional focus on developing social and emotional well-being to support our community of children, families, teachers, and site staff during this challenging time. Second Step lessons are embedded in our Advisory Schoology courses, and the lessons include such topics as Mindsets & Goals, Recognizing Bullying & Harassment, Thoughts, Emotions, and Decisions, and Managing Relationships and Social Conflicts.
