This month at RMS, students will be working on developing their principled side. But what does it mean to be principled? It starts with knowing what’s right and what is wrong. It centers on issues of honesty, fairness, and justice. Using the words of Martin Luther King Jr., the art of being principled is knowing that “The time is always right to do what is right.”

So what can we do at home to continue this principled growth? Start with conversations about the values your family holds true. Discuss why you believe what you believe and where these beliefs came from. Challenge your students to think about what they would do in situations when their core beliefs and principles are being challenged.

Martin Luther King Jr’s words can and should continue to guide us as we become more and more principled learners and leaders. Begin by asking yourself, what are you doing to make sure you’re doing what’s right?

An axiom that has been passed down through generations states that “The mind is like a parachute; it doesn’t work if it's not open.” For the month of November students at RMS will be testing out those parachutes as they work on this month’s Learner Profile trait - Open Minded.
