5 district schools getting summertime facelifts

An important part of being good stewards of district tax dollars is to maintain the community’s investment in its schools.

That's why when you drive past one of five district schools this summer, you might see some work being done. From window replacement to roof repairs to HVAC upgrades, every summer Robbinsdale Area Schools invests in its buildings to make sure they’re welcoming environments and great places for learning.

The bulk of this work is part of the district’s Long-Term Facilities Maintenance (LTFM) plan, and funded through the district’s Building Construction Fund.

This summer’s projects:

Armstrong High School

  • West link roof replacement
  • West parking lot sealcoat and northeast parking lot reconstruction
  • Exterior masonry repairs/renovation
  • Auto/wood shops renovation
  • Emergency lighting repowering
  • Add air conditioning to gym
  • Partial HVAC equipment replacement, controls upgrades

Robbinsdale Middle School

  • Partial roofing replacement and related drainage piping improvements
  • Upper and lower east parking lot and south trail repairs
  • Exterior masonry repairs/renovation
  • Partial hallway ceiling replacement/renovation
  • Add air conditioning to gym
  • Chiller replacement and cooling system control improvements
  • Mass notification system (fire alarm) replacement

Plymouth Middle School

  • West drive, east parking lot, and fire lane repairs
  • Partial window and fenestration replacement
  • Exterior masonry repairs/renovation
  • Partial interior door replacement
  • Bathroom wash sink replacement with individual lavatories
  • Mass notification system (fire alarm) replacement
  • Electrical receptacle upgrade to tamper proof devices

Northport Elementary School

  • Re-paving the west playground and associated landscaping
  • Lighting and lighting controls replacement
  • Mass notification system (fire alarm) replacement

 
School of Engineering and Arts (SEA)

  • Partial roof replacement
  • West parking lot renovation
  • Partial window replacement
  • Exterior masonry repairs/renovation
  • Heavy interior remodel
  • Replace interior finishes
  • Mechanical systems replacements
  • Re-powering facility and electrical distribution
  • Mass notification system (fire alarm) replacement
  • Electrical receptacle upgrade to tamper proof devices
  • Emergency power inverter and Universal Power Supply replacement
  • Lighting and lighting controls replacement

Note: the SEA project is a two-year renovation to accommodate partial occupancy.
