RMS IB: Lifelong Learning

What makes a great learner? Is it one’s ability to quickly answer questions or recall information? Or is it being able to adapt and use what you learned in a variety of ways? Could it be the way you organize your thoughts or feelings and how you communicate them to the world? Each of these are correct answers to a question that could have an infinite number of responses.

At RMS, we strive to help our students find their own answer to that initial question through a honing of a set of skills that they will be able to use throughout their lives. These skills are called the Approaches to Learning. Students practice these skills throughout their day at RMS, and they go beyond the course specific knowledge one would expect to learn in any particular class. They fall into one of five categories: thinking skills, communication skills, social skills, research skills, and self-management skills.

Being a lifelong learner is one of the foundational aspects of being an IB student, and the Approaches to Learning are some of the best tools to help us achieve that goal.
